Pinterest Friday - Food Edition

I  know this post is a little different for a scrapbooking and craft blog.   Some of my favorite things to pin on Pinterest are recipes.  I am always looking for new dinner ideas.   I love to cook and bake, but food is not my specialty.  A little bit about me as a cook ~ I am messy.

The recipes I am sharing today are Pinterest inspired.  One of them uses quinoa, which   I was introduced to a couple of years ago and was not sure I liked it.  Then last year, I heard about a recipe using quinoa.  It was so yummy (I will share it with you sometime).  When I saw this recipe on Pinterest, I was excited to try a new quinoa dish.

Buffalo Chicken Quinoa Salad
Thanks to Half Baked Harvest, my husband and I enjoyed this for dinner one night.  Tieghan mentioned that you do not need to add all of the "dressing."  I love buffalo chicken and don't mind the spicy taste, but I would probably add less of the dressing next time and possibly a little less blue cheese.  If you like buffalo chicken, this is a great way to try quinoa.

Winter Minestrone and Garlic Bruschetta
This was absolutely delish.  I made pasta to go with it, but I did not add it to my bowl.  The kids and the hubby had pasta in their serving.  The veggies were enough and filling for me.  I added a little pecorino romano cheese - my fave.  I highly recommend this hearty, healthy and delicious soup.  Thank you to Lindsey from Crave by Random House for sharing this recipe.  One other thing, I used homemade pesto that my mom made.  I had it in the freezer.

P.S. - I included a picture of the veggies cooking ~ I loved the colors!

Announcement: New Linky Party

Hello Fellow crafters.  I have been to many link up parties - all of which are great and I love going back to because I have met so many wonderful people.  On my cyberspace travels, I have yet to find a linky completely devoted to scrapbook layouts and cards (not a challenge).  I am sure there is one out there somewhere.

Since I LOVE seeing what other scrapbookers and card makers create, I am going to be hosting a weekly linky party on Wednesdays.  I would love for you to stop by and link up any scrapbook layout or card that you are proud of, old or new, (created  by YOU)!

I see this as a great opportunity to meet other card makers and scrappers and gain some inspiration.  The only thing I am going to ask of you is to share my button.  The more people who link up the more fun we will have looking at the creations.  Of course, if you see something that you like, it would be nice to stop by that blog and leave a comment.  Let's meet some new crafty friends.

Happy Sharing and Linking,

p.s.  This party will not take the place of our one to two challenges per month.  I am in the process of coming up with some sort of giveaway for the crafters who partake in the challenges! Stay Tuned.

Color Challenge!

Happy Design Team Tuesday.  Welcome to our first color challenge.  The inspiration for this week are the blues, greens and brown shades from this pretty "spring" photo.

Check out what the design team and guest designer Jessica created (even I played along).  We would love for you to link up your creation.  The challenge is a fun way to connect with others and share ideas.  I always love how everyone's interpretations are so different yet so amazing and unique.  All that I ask is that you display the design team color challenge button in your post (code is in the sidebar).  Thanks for playing along and I hope to see you back here next month.

- cardstock embellishments
- Fluffer Nutter

Sunday Social (#2 for me)

Sunday Social

1. What is your favorite thing about Spring?
My favorite thing about spring is the feeling of being renewed.  The smell of the beautiful spring air make me happy and think of love.  It feels like a time of renewal and LOVE.

2. Favorite kind of flowers to grow or receive?

I love to receive roses.  I have a couple of rose bushes that do pretty well but
I love growing my second favorite flower ~ hydrangeas.

3. What is your favorite nail polish color?

I only like to polish my toenails.  For some reason I don't care for the way my fingernails
look polished.  Plus it never stays on for long since as a mom my hands are constantly
in water.  I will wear ANY color on my toes.  So fun to do in the spring and summer.

4. What is your favorite out door activity?

I would have to say either working in the garden or riding my bike.

5. Do you have any fun Spring plans? Details

I look forward to enjoying Easter ~ although it is quite early.
I will be hosting a crop that is sure to be fun.

~ Poultry Seasoning
~ Paired with White and Blue (Aqua or Jetstream) cardstock

Sunday Social!

Sunday Social
This is a first for me.  I have never done a blog post like this before - but thought it would be fun and a good thing to do on a Sunday.  Here goes - the answers to the 5 questions.

1. Favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
Rainy days are best spent inside for me.  Whether is be cleaning the house from top to bottom or cuddling up on the couch and watching a movie with my kiddos. I don't like going out in the rain and getting wet, although I always wanted to have a romantic frolic in the rain (the ones like you see in the movies).

2. Favorite thing to do on a Summer weekend?
I like to sit out on my back deck and take in the peace and quiet.  Working in the garden and getting dirty is usually completed before the relaxing - but I enjoy both.

3. Favorite Spring accessory?
Not sure I have a favorite spring accessory.  Not much of an accessory person,
but I will say my pink pocket book.

4. Favorite way to spend a Winter day?
I love being stuck inside on a snowy winter day, fire on, comfy clothes and maybe some baking thrown in.

5. What is your favorite season and why?
Fall is my fave.  Love the colors of the leaves and the crispness in the air.  Enjoy baking apple and pumpkin goodness.  And how can I forget my favorite holiday ~ Halloween ~ is in the Fall.

6. Best birthday you ever had?
That is hard.  Any birthday spent with my family is the best.  Who likes to celebrate getting older?
I am thankful to be on this earth to celebrate another birthday

Episode 8 - The Fun of the Party (Ninjago)

Part two of the Ninjago party starts now!
The birthday boy and his mom (me).

~ Games ~
The snakes made out of cardboard tubes pictured in Thursdays post (and below)
were used for the Chinese star throwing game. Each child had a paper star that my husband
made out of cardstock.  The children were given a chance to decorate their star and then
we took turns trying to take out the snakes.  Think of it as bowling with a star.

Love this amazing shot of my son throwing the star!

We played a Wonder Ball type game with this cool snake ball I found at Dollar Tree.
Instead of singing your typical Wonder Ball song, thanks to my kiddos, we sang:
"My Poison Lies Over the Ocean."
"My Poison Lies Over the Sea."
"My Poison Lies Over the Ocean."
"Now bring back my poison to me."
(sung to the tune "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.")
The child with the ball at the end of the song was out.
The picture is a little blurry but I wanted you to see the ball.

The next game we played was inspired by the Karate Kid and the brown clothespin like
chopsticks that I bought.  Remember when Mr. Miagi was trying to catch the fly with chopsticks?
We tried to catch the butterflies from the "Elefun" game with chopsticks.  Only two children played
at the same time (to ensure no one was poked in the eye).  The kids had a lot of fun with this game
even though it was hard!
One of the highlights of the night, was posing for pictures in front of the faux "Rice Screens."
This idea was inspired by a similar one that I saw on Pinterest thanks to Craft, Interrupted.
I used her cool Ninjago signs as props for the photos.  Thanks for sharing those, Jaimee.  I will
sending each child there own picture strip. Ninja Photo Booth Printables

Even the adults had a little fun.  Notice I made a headband for the kids to wear that said Ninja.
I used a Ninja font that I downloaded (made a stencil).  The Ninja fonts were also used
for the invitations and the fortune cookie sayings.

Last but not least was the singing of Happy Birthday.  Instead of a cake, the birthday boy
wanted  ice cream sundaes.  Of course, I had to make something to go with the theme -
Ninjago cake pops.  I used fondant for the yellow Lego face and drew the eyes on
with cake decorating markers.
Fortunes for the Fortune Cookies

Check out how cool the screen looks as a backdrop for the birthday song!

Happy Birthday to my little man,
