Monthly Challenge!

Hello!  Our February photo of the day challenge is ending today.  Do you believe today is the last day of the month?  It is time to share the pictures you took and the layout you created.  Link up to the post. (I will be setting up a linky).

If you did not participate in our photo challenge you are more than welcome to still link up a page depicting your February.  And make sure you check out our March photo challenge.  Hope you will join us snapping away March.

I have not added the journal box yet, once I do I will post a new picture.
Also, with no sun the last couple of days it is difficult to get the right lighting for the photo.
Hopefully by the time I get the journalling done the sun will be shining again.

Happy Creating!

Comedy Night Event

Hello All. It has been TOO LONG...but I wanted to share why I have been MIA for the past week.

For the past 3 years I have been hosting a parents' night out event for my children's elementary school  PTO (Parent Teacher Organization).  The previous two years we hosted a wine tasting event - fun - but it was time for a change.  After pondering our options, the committee decided on Comedy Night!

I searched for a local comedian and found one who came highly recommended.  She was awesome, hysterical and made the night complete.  Thanks, Linda Belt.

We had a variety of  raffle and silent auction prizes ~ that is where we make most of our money.  The best auction items are the kids artwork.  I won the fish pictured below, which was created by my daughter's 4th grade class.  She wanted me to win it since the previous year I won a cookie jar that her brother's class created.  There was music, talking, food, drinking and laughing all for $25.  The night was a huge success!

The pitchers, platter and cookie jar in the pictures above and below are created using the
children's fingerprints.  The cookie jar below is similar to the one I won last year!

Thank you to all my committee members who helped make the event fun and successful - a good time had by all who attended .  I could not have done it without you!  We are going out with a bang!  (p.s. for those of you who are reading this, I am not chairing the event next year. Not sure if anyone will take on this enormous task).

Happy Monday!

Apple Pie x Two Kids = 2 Layouts

For the past two years, our tradition is apple picking and then apple pie baking.  We freeze each kids' pies, one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas.  It is a yummy recipe for French Apple Pie.  (I will share that too).  I used the same printed papers on these two layouts with a different style for each.

They were both designed as double layouts but can be created as just a single layout.
Here is another shot of my daughter's second page.

Materials used:
American Crafts, Amy Tangerine - Orange You Glad
Bazzill - Sugar Cream (son's layout)
Bazzill - Tangerine Blast (son's layout)

I also used a brown that I had in my stash, but Java by Bazzill may be a good color choice.  My daughter's layout combined different orange/rust colors that I had, but there are other neutral choices that
would work with the paper like Bazzill - Butter Cream.  And maybe you have solid colors in your paper collection that have not had a use until now!

French Apple Pie
 (Betty Crocker)

Pie Ingredients:

  • pie crust
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • dash of salt
  • 8 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (8 medium)
 Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup firm butter
Heat oven to 425 degrees (no need to bake if freezing).  Mix sugar through salt in large bowl.

Stir in apples, turn into crust lined pie plate
Mix crumb topping ingredients until crumbly.
Top pie with crumb topping.
Bake 50 minutes, cover bake additional 10 min.

(If frozen do not defrost, bake unwrapped, 425 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Lower to 350 degrees and bake additional 50 minutes. Don't bake before freezing.)

Happy Baking!

My Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone.  I wanted to share these layouts that I created of the love of my life and myself.  These pictures were taken at our no kids trip to Barbados in November.

The supplies used are by Colorbok.  I found the paper pad and all the embellishments (stickers, die cuts, rub-ons) on clearance.  I just loved the color and how everything coordinated.

Hope you and all your Valentines enjoy the rest of your day!

Happy Loving!

Big Sister, Little Brother!

My baby brother is a special guy.  I was nine years old when he was born and spent a lot of time babysitting for him and doing many things that a big sister would do.  The recent picture was taken this year at his birthday celebration.  It was a fun picture that I knew would end up on a scrapbook page.  I remembered that I had a picture of me holding him that would be a great addition to the layout!

Materials Used:
Headliner was used as the background.  I cut apart the 5th Avenue paper to create the title and the border on the bottom with our names (I was lucky that all the words used had no repeat letters).  I created a strip and matted the pictures & journaling with Cotton dress adding some white cardstock to create the double mat.  I created the look of stitching with a pen (the 5th Avenue papers had marks that looked like stitching).  I am so happy with the finished product!

Thanks for letting me share this fun layout with you!

Happy Scrapping!

This is a simple layout of my son with his Boy Scout Pinewood Derby car.  I thought this paper was ideal for this page.  Quick layout but still cute.
Materials Used:

Admiral matches not what I used!
Green and light blue cardstock (from my stash)

Rock Princess with Cricut

Dance or rock star parties are so fun. Last year, my daughter had a rock star birthday party with a lot of dancing.   I used the Cricut Rock Princess cartridge to make the scrapbook pages.  There are so many fun cutouts on the Rock Princess cartridge - great for any rock star.

The layout pictured on top uses Teresa Collins paper collection FreeStyle: Zebra and Crowns. The embellishments were grouped together in a technique called clustering.  See post about clustering!

The layout on the bottom was created with On Trend Collection by  Crate Paper: Modish.

The rest of the papers were from a paper pack with fun shiny and glittery papers that I found on my travels a while back - perfect for a rock star.  Foam tabs were used to raise up some of the embellishments on the page (the heart with the bow, Rock Star title and Party Girl.

Happy Rocking!

Holy Snow, Batman!

Happy Sunday to you all.

Here in the Northeast we are experiencing a snow world where people are stuck in their houses.  Street are not plowed and school is already cancelled for Monday - who knows if there will be school on Tuesday.  I heard that one town's goal is to have one lane plowed on all roads by sometime Monday.  Not wide enough to get buses down and now you have a bus stop safety issue (not enough room)!  Crazy, I  know.

I am enjoying my time with my family and getting lots of crafting done.  I wanted to take a moment to share some pics I have depicting the amazing amount of snow.  It's a winter wonderland!!  If you are affected by this storm, please stay safe.

Holy Snow, Batman!
