Grateful Greeting Card

Hello.  Today I am sharing a card created by Cassie using Jillibean Soup, Country Pumpkin Chowder collection.

"The brown scallop border and orange strip are both from the coordinating punch out die cuts. For the button I used the cute plaid die cut button and covered it with Crystal Effects to give some dimension and shine."

Happy Halloween!

Jillibean Soup Card by Cassie D'Ambrosio

This morning The Memory Nest welcomed Cassie D'Ambrosio to our design team.   If you did not see that post, check it out.  Cassie is the new designer for The Memory Nest.  Cassie's first card that we will be showcasing was made using the Country Pumpkin Chowder collection from Jillibean Soup.  Most of you may have seen the scrapbook pages we posted last week using the same materials (if not it is in the archives).

Here is what Cassie said about her design:
"I just love all the colors and patterns in this collection. The Die Cut sheet makes it quick and easy to put together cards as well as layouts.
For my first card I cut two strips from the patterned paper and cut the bottoms into a banner shape. Then I layered a couple of the die cuts together with dimensional adhesive and a stamped sentiment for the center. I rounded the bottom corners of the card base then added some faux stitching with a white gel pen for some extra detail."
Country Pumpkin Chowder can be purchased at www.thememorynest.com

Welcome to Designer Cassie!

The Memory Nest is pleased to introduce our designer, Cassie D'Ambrosio.
The Memory Nest is looking forward to working with Cassie.  She loves making cards, which are creative and beautiful.  Cassie has had her work published in Paper Crafts Magazine.  Card Creations and Card Magazine will be showcasing her work in their upcoming publications.

Hello, my name is Cassie. I am married and have two children. I work full-time as an Architect and Interior Designer by day and love to play with paper, glue and all sorts of crafty tools at night! I started scrapbooking about 7 years ago and it quickly led to card making. I love making cards because the canvas is small and I can finish a project pretty quickly.  I love the quick satisfaction of completing a project!  I do still scrapbook, but cards are more of a passion for me. I love to experiment with different styles from Clean and Simple to Shabby Chic.  Other than paper crafting I love to crochet, knit, read, cook and decorate cakes and cookies.

Welcome Cassie!  The Memory Nest looks forward to seeing all your wonderful creations and showcasing your designs.  Check back later to see her card created with Jillibean Soup paper.

Apple Picking - Apple Cheddar Soup Paper Collection

Apple Picking is one of my favorite fall activities.  The pictures vary from year to year depending on how early or late we go since the weather can sometimes be warmer than expected and the leaves may not be too colorful yet.

These pictures are from a few years back and I finally had great paper to scrap them.  The background color is called Parakeet by Bazzill BasicsThe printed paper is the Apple Cheddar Soup collection by Jillibean Soup.

On this two page layout (which can be done as a one page layout ~ see below) I used the Fresh Apple Slices and Green Peppercorn paper sheets (both are double sided). The cardstock stickers from the Apple Cheddar Soup collection added the final touch.

  • The two 5x7 and one 4x6 pictures were matted using an off white/cream colored paper from a paper pack that I had in my stash.
  • I cut out  10"x6" rectangle from the Apple Slices sheet.
  • An 8x8" square was cut out of the Green Peppercorn paper.
  • The cardstock stickers, Apple Cheddar Soup, were adhered to the page (see below).
  • I drew dashes around the outer edge of the Green Peppercorn square to look like stitching.
  • I used the scrap pieces on the second page to accent the right side adhering the pictures over the paper and then adding the embellishments and journaling.
  • I included the dashes around the Green Peppercorn paper for the same look as the left page.

All items on this page can be purchased at The Memory Nest.  www.thememorynest.com.  Follow the blog to see new scrapbook and layout ideas.

Fall Foliage Scrapbook Layout

It can be difficult to catch the fall foliage at the right time for great pictures.  A few years back I dressed my children in brown and off white for a picture with the gorgeous colors of fall.

The colors of the trees in the background are beautiful golden colors.  I did not want to use too much color in the layout but wanted to accentuate the browns and yellows.

The background paper is Fawn by Bazzill Basics with the pictures matted in a cream colored cardstock that I had in my supplies.

Jillibean Soup's new collection, Country Pumpkin Chowder had the colors that I was looking to bring out [in the pictures].  A little tidbit about Jillibean Soup is that the paper is made in the USA.

I chose Pumpkin Puree and Ground Cinnamon (double sided paper sheets).  I used the Pea Pod Parts (cardstock punch outs - no cutting) to embellish the page.

Page Pieces: The strips of paper that can be seen in the picture below left are 2" and 3" (Pumpkin Puree and Ground Cinnamon) with the scalloped strip from the Pea Pod Parts. The printed paper on the opposite page is a 2" strip of Ground Cinnamon going across the page (underneath the pics) with a 4"x6" piece of the Pumpkin Puree (tree) paper.  Then I cut a 1/4" strip of the Pumpkin Puree stripe and adhered it in between the horizontal strips attaching two of the Peas Pod Parts to the Center (picture bottom right).

Tombow tape runner was used to adhere all the wonderful papers and embellishments.  Tombow tape runners are so easy and quick to refill when you run out.  I made the butterflies and title "pop out" with Tombow foam tabs.

All items can be found at The Memory Nest online store ~ www.thememorynest.com.  We hope to assist you with your scrapbooking supply needs soon!

Pinterst to Halloween

I know this is totally not scrapbook related, but I would love to share some of the recent crafts I completed thanks to Pinterst.  I love Halloween and each year I host a Halloween party (kids and adults).  I must say I go a little crazy with decorating and planning, and each year I add more items to the insanity (good old Halloween fun - insanity).  Since I have finally joined Pinterest, I have enjoyed finding  new Halloween ideas.  Some of the projects I completed have been altered, but I would like to share my masterpieces with you.  (FYI: for all you scrapbook followers - I will be posting my completed Thanksgiving pages later).

Someone Pinned an adorable chalkboard frame.  In order to recreate it I would have to find two different decorative frames, which could get pricey if you had to buy them brand new.  I mostly like the idea of having a chalkboard display saying "pick your poison" with drink choices listed for the adults.
I took a piece of foam board I had and painted the whole thing black.  Once dry, I framed off about an inch and a half along the sides with painters tape.  I proceeded to paint the middle with two coats of chalkboard paint following the instructions on the bottle. I removed the tape after the chalkboard paint was dry, and created stencils on my Cricut to use for the decorative edge of the "frame."

This floral centerpiece was recreated using a glass vase form the thrift store - painted black.  We had these bouquet of fake flowers that my daughter likes playing with that I place in the vase.  I glued creepy, crawly, gross bugs to the leaves and flowers.  And now I have a cute little table decoration.
The last thing I want to share are the witches legs in the cauldron.  I followed the instructions I found on Pinterst and put tights on two pool noodles, which needed to be shorter and had to be cut).  Then I found old shoes that I had in my closet, which looked really witchy.  My husband used his magic and created some crazy metal post contraption to stick in the pool noodles in order for the legs to stand up.  The metal posts were then placed in a wood base.
